The purpose of the Couple and family CONNECT app is to help users communicate with loved ones in ways that BUILD CONNECTION rather than erode it. This is done through the format of “I feel” statements to share both negative (distressed) and positive (non-distressed) emotions.
It takes practice to get good at using “I feel” statements, especially in the moment when we feel triggered. The CONNECT App is designed to help you get this practice, and in written communication where you have some built-in “space” to figure out what you’re feeling and how you want to share it with a loved one. The goal in using the CONNECT App is that over time, you will get more comfortable with using “I feel” statements and so you’ll use them more often in your written and spoken communication with your loved one, especially around conflict. We can also use “I feel” statements for other communications that build stronger bonds like “Appreciations” and Repairs”.
